鵄鵂（上叱之反下音休也考聲及文字典說皆云鵂鵄怪鳥也察此鳥晝休夜飛說文鵂即鴟也鴟則鳶屬也古今正字二字並從鳥至休皆聲䲻或從氐作鴟今不取也）。

Screech owl (chixiu; the upper character is chi-zhi fan; the lower character has the sound xiu. The Kaosheng and the Wenzi dian shuo both say: "The xiuchi is an ominous bird. Observing this bird, it rests by day and flies by night." The Shuowen jiezi says: "The xiu is a horned owl (chi); the horned owl belongs to the kite family." The Gujin zhengzi states: "Both characters take the bird classifier; zhi and xiu are the phonetics respectively."䲻 is sometimes written with the di classifier as 鴟; this is not adopted here).
