機閞（上記希反桂苑珠藂云機謂制動轉之關隸也顧野王云機者有機麗之物也說文主發動者謂之機弩之類是也從木幾聲）。

Mechanism (jiguan; the upper character is ji-xi fan. The Guiyuan zhucong says: "Ji refers to the governing lock that controls movement and rotation." Gu Yewang says: "A mechanism is a device endowed with a trigger." The Shuowen jiezi says: "That which controls release and movement is called a mechanism, like crossbows and the like. It takes the wood classifier and ji as phonetic").
