麰麥（上莫候反劉熙注孟子云麰麥有兩鋒者郭注方言云大麥也又王簫云今河北有春種夏熟說文來麥麰也亦瑞麥也從麥牟聲）。

Barley [麰麥]: the first [character is pronounced with the fanqie] mo-hou (莫候反). Liu Xi's commentary on the Mengzi states: 'Móu (麰) is barley with double awns.' Guo [Pu's] commentary on the Fangyan states: 'Barley (dàmài).' Also, Wang Xiao says: 'Nowadays in Hebei, it is sown in spring and ripens in summer.' The Shuowen [jiezi] states: 'Wheat and barley, also auspicious grain.' It is formed from [the semantic component] mài (麥, wheat) and [the phonetic component] móu (牟).
