大鼇（下五高反神仙傳云有列靈之龜背負蓬萊山而弄戲滄海之中也王注楚辭云鼇大鼇也古今正字從黽敖聲黽音猛）。

Great turtle [大鼇]: the second [character is pronounced with the fanqie] wu-gao (五高反). The Shenxian zhuan states: 'There are spirit turtles that bear Mount Penglai on their backs and play in the midst of the vast sea.' Wang [Yi's] commentary on the Chuci states: 'Áo (鼇) is a giant sea turtle.' In the Gujin zhengzi, it is formed from [the semantic component] mǐn (黽, frog/reptile; mǐn has the sound meng) and [the phonetic component] áo (敖).
