飢饉（上音機下音近尒雅云穀不熟為飢蔬不熟為饉案禮記饑饉歲凶年穀不登也說文飢饉二字皆從食几堇聲堇音謹）。

飢饉: The first character has the pronunciation of 機. The second character has the pronunciation of 近. The Erya says: "Failure of the grain crop is called 飢; failure of vegetables is called 饉." According to the Book of Rites: "Famine and shortage (饑饉) refer to bad years when the crops do not mature." The Shuowen [jiezi] states that both characters 飢 and 饉 take the food radical (食), with 几 and 堇 as their phonetics. The pronunciation of 堇 is 謹.
