街巷（上音皆考聲都邑之中大道也下學降反毛詩傳里間道也韻英小街也或作衖皆古字也今省為巷也）。

街巷 (Avenues and lanes: The upper character has the sound 皆 [jiē]. The Kaosheng says: "A great thoroughfare within a capital or city." The lower character has the fanqie 降 [xiàng]. The Mao commentary to the Classic of Poetry says: "A path between hamlets." The Yunying says: "A small street." It is also written as 衖, both being ancient characters; now it is abbreviated as 巷).
