(Marabous and egrets: The upper character has the sound 秋 [qiū]; the lower character has the sound 路 [lù]. They are also written as 𪀖 and 𪇸, both being ancient characters. Gu Yewang says: "A large bird; its feathers are pure white and can be made into down." The Classic of Poetry says: "There is a marabou on the dam." The commentary says: "A bald marabou." It also says: "Flocks of egrets take flight." The Erya says: "The lu is the chongchu." Guo Pu says: "That is the white egret; on its head, plumage, and back there are long quill feathers. Now people of Jiangdong take them for combs, naming them 'white egret crests' (xiangs, xiang has the fanqie 蘇隈)." Now, the bald marabou and the white egret are each distinct birds).
