瘂者(鵶賈反考聲云口不能言也案瘂人雖有聲而無詞也說文闕古今正字云瘂瘖也從疒疒音女厄反亞聲也經從口作啞非也啞音厄周易笑言啞啞非經義也前經第一卷已具釋)。

Mute person [瘂者] (ya + gu fan [ya]. The Kaosheng says: 'The mouth being unable to speak.' We note: Although a mute person has vocal sounds, they have no words. It is missing from the Shuowen jiezi. The Gujin zhengzi says: '瘂 means dumbness (yin); it takes the 'sickness' radical (pronounced nü + e fan [nie]) and ya as phonetic.' In the sūtra it is written with the 'mouth' radical as 啞, which is incorrect. 啞 is pronounced e; the Book of Changes states 'laughing and talking joyously (ya ya)', which is not the meaning intended by the sūtra. It has already been fully explained in the first fascicle of the previous sūtra.)
