Without blinking [不眴] (xuan + juan fan [xuan]. Wang Yi's commentary on the Songs of Chu says: 'Xuan means to look.' The Kaosheng says: 'Movement of the eyes.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Movement of the eyes; it takes the 'eye' radical and xuan phonetic.' In the sūtra it is written as 旬, which is an error. The Yupian states: 'Nowadays when people move their eyes to secretly signal each other, it is called xuan; originally written as 旬, and Wei Hong wrote it as 訇 or 盷, all of which are acceptable.' Already explained in fascicle forty-one of the second sūtra in the sounds and meanings of the previous sūtra.)
