婉約（上惌遠反杜注左傳云婉約言華麗也韻詮婉媚也說文婉順也從女宛聲竝形聲字）。

Graceful and restrained (婉約: the upper character [婉] is pronounced *y[uan]* + *[y]uan* [wǎn]. Du [Yu]'s commentary to the *Zuo zhuan* says: "*Wanyue* means ornate and elegant." The *Yunquan* says: "Charming and graceful." The *Shuowen [jiezi]* says: "*Wan* means yielding and obedient." It is classified under woman (女) with *wan* (宛) phonetic; both are phono-semantic characters).
