嬪妃（上牝民反下芳微反毛詩傳云嬪婦也鄭注禮記云婦人有法度之稱也妃御女也亦世婦也古今正字並從女賔已皆聲也）。

嬪妃 ('imperial consorts'; the first character has the fanqie 牝 [pin] + 民 [min]; the second has the fanqie 芳 [fang] + 微 [wei]; the commentary to the Mao Classic of Poetry says: '嬪 [pin] means a married woman'; Zheng's commentary on the Book of Rites says: 'The designation for a woman possessing proper deportment; 妃 [fei] refers to attendant women, also junior concubines'; the Gujin zhengzi states both are formed from 女, with 賔 and 己 respectively as phonetics).
