Unblinking (不瞚: the lower character has the fanqie shuǐ + rùn [shùn]; Zhuang Zhou states: 'Gazing all day without blinking (shùn)'; Shuowen jiezi states: 'Opening and closing the eyes in rapid motion; derived from 目 "eye" with 寅 phonetic'; it is also written as 瞬, a vulgar character; in ancient script written as 𰕼; the sūtra derives it from 目 with 旬 as 眴, pronouncing it shùn, which is incorrect and does not form a proper character. Examining Shuowen jiezi, 眴 and 旬 are both pronounced xuàn; 眴 is the appearance of looking; the sūtra translators pronounced it shùn, completely failing to understand the character's original source, picking it up on the road and speaking it in the streets, mistakenly using it).
