剜眼（椀莞反埤蒼云剜[利-禾+(ㄙ/月)]也考聲云剜曲刻也說文從刃夗聲也經作剜非也[利-禾+(ㄙ/月)]音恚緣反）。

剜眼 (gouging out eyes: [the upper character] has the fanqie wan + wan. The Picang says: "Wan (剜) means to carve out." The Kaosheng says: "Wan means to chisel in a curved shape." The Shuowen says it is formed with the "blade" semantic classifier and the yuan (夗) phonetic component. The sūtra writes it as 剜, which is non-standard. The character [利-禾+(ㄙ/月)] has the fanqie hui + yuan).
