窣堵波 (stūpa: the upper character has the fanqie su + gu; the lower character has the fanqie du + gu. It is the Sanskrit name for a brick pagoda. In the Tang language it means a lofty, superior square mound. In ancient times it was called sutoupo or tapo, both of which are imprecise. That is, a brick tower containing relic fragments of the body; in colloquial language today it is sometimes called a futu).
