Strike and hit (扣擊: [扣 has the fanqie] 苦苟反. Kong's commentary on the Lunyu says: '扣 also means to strike (擊).' The Guangya says: 'To hold.' Composed of 手 with 口 phonetic; also written as 叩. The lower [character has the fanqie] 經歷反. Gu Yewang says: '擊 means to strike and beat.' Zheng's commentary on the Kaogong ji says: 'To tap.' The Shuowen says: 'To beat and hit.' Composed of 手 with 𣪠 phonetic; the sound is the same as above).
