Lunar eclipse (月蝕: fanqie shí-zhī. Li Chunfeng says: "When the moon wanes in the heavens, fish brains vanish in the springs; could the moon be emaciated, or have some cavity that damages its body? It is simply that the qi of yin and yang mutually resonate with each other." The Calendrical Canon says: "Whenever the moon is eclipsed, the qi of dark void covers it, hence a waning is observed." The Yijing says: "When sun and moon wax full, they suffer eclipse." The Shuowen jiezi says: "Composed of the insect radical with shí (食) phonetic").
