Stupefied and dazed (憕懵) (the first character has the fanqie 鄧登反; the second character has the fanqie 墨崩反. The Kaosheng says: “憕懵 means that the mind and spirit are not clear.” The character dictionaries state: “The appearance of having lost one's wits.” Both take 心 [mind] as their semantic component, with 登 and 瞢 respectively as their phonetic components. In sūtra manuscripts, the first character is written with 目 as 瞪, pronounced 棖, which is incorrect).
