Fighting and quarreling (𨷖諍): [𨷖 is pronounced with the fanqie] 當 + 遘. Gu Yewang says: 'To take up weapons and attack each other in battle is called dou (𨷖).' The Cang Jie pian says: 'Dou means contending.' The Tongsu wen says: 'Dragging each other is called dou (𮤟).' The Zijing says: 'Dou means contending.' The Zuanyun says: 'Clashing with an enemy in mutual strife.' The Shuowen says: 'Two warriors facing each other with weapons behind them; pictographic of wanting to fight each other; categorized under 丮, with doors facing each other making 門; it is also an ideographic character.' 丮 is pronounced 戟; 用 is pronounced with the fanqie 恭 + 玉. When early worthy scholars saw that it was confused with the character 門, they added the character 斲 inside to make 𨷖 in order to distinguish them. Later generations did not understand this, and due to cursive clerical script, changed 𠁁 into 豆. Writing it categorized under 門, 豆, and 斤 as 𮤟 has been in use for a long time and cannot be corrected. 斲 is pronounced 卓 (zhuo); 𠁁 is also the ancient character for zhuo (卓).
