原赦（魚袁反原猶放逸也魏志特原不問罪是也下書夜反三蒼赦舍也周禮掌三赦之法一赦幼小二赦老疾三赦憃愚也說文赦寬免也從攴赤聲也）。

Pardon and forgive (原赦: the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 魚 + 袁 [yuán]; *yuan* (原) is like releasing; the *Wei zhi* says: "specially pardoned (*yuan*) without inquiring into his crimes", which is this; the second character is pronounced with the fanqie 書 + 夜 [shè]; the *Sancang* says *she* (赦) means to let go; the *Zhouli* says: "in charge of the method of the three pardons: first is to pardon the young and small, second is to pardon the aged and diseased, third is to pardon the stupid and ignorant"; the *Shuowen jiezi* says *she* means lenience and remission, with the semantic radical 攴 [strike] and phonetic 赤 [chì]).
