掩蔽（上淹儼反考聲云掩藏也說文從手奄聲經從曰作晻誤也下卑袂反顧野王云蔽不明也杜注左傳云蔽障也廣雅蔽隱也說文從艸敝聲）。

掩蔽 ('conceal and cover': the upper character has the fanqie 淹儼 [yǎn]. The Kaosheng says: 'Yan means to hide.' The Shuowen says: 'Derived from 手 [hand] with 奄 as phonetic.' In the sūtra text it is written with 日 as 晻, which is mistaken. The lower character has the fanqie 卑袂 [bì]. Gu Yewang says: 'Bi means not bright.' Du [Yu's] commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: 'Bi means to screen.' The Guangya says: 'Bi means to conceal.' The Shuowen says: 'Derived from 艸 [grass] with 敝 as phonetic').
