勤筞男（初革反筞驅也勤勞也梵言室羅末拏伊落迦此云勞之小者也亦言息慈謂息惡行慈義譯也舊言沙彌者訛略也）。

Qince nan 勤筞男 (novice monk) (*chū-gé* fanqie; *ce* [筞] means to urge on; *qin* [勤] means toil; in Sanskrit, *śrāmaṇeraka*; here translated as "lesser in toil"; also called "ceasing [evil] and practicing kindness [息慈]", which is a translation of its meaning; the older rendering *shami* [沙彌] is erroneous and abbreviated).
