鑽燧 [fire-drill] (the second character is pronounced with the fanqie 隨 + 醉 [suì]. The *Shenglei* states: 'The 燧 is used to obtain fire from its cause.' Ma Rong's commentary on the *Lunyu* states: 'Drilling for fire uses different wood in each of the four seasons.' The *Zuozhuan* states: 'The 燧 is used to obtain fire from shells.' The *Gujin zhengzi* states: 'Classified under the radical 火 with 遂 as its phonetic component').
