遞互（上提禮反考聲云遞代也又云迭也古文作递今論文作遆或作遰並非也說文從辵虒聲也辵音丑略反虒音天伊反又音斯下胡故反顧野王云互謂更遞也說文在竹部玉篇在牙部或從竹作䇘可以收繩者也今省竹作互象形中象人手所推握也論文作㸦俗用字也）。

遞互 (The first character is *ti* + *li* fanqie; the *Kaosheng* says: "遞 means to substitute, and also means to alternate." In ancient script it is written as 递; now in the treatise text it is written as 遆 or as 遰, both of which are incorrect; the *Shuowen* says it is derived from 辵 with 虒 phonetic; 辵 is *chou* + *lüe* fanqie, and 虒 is *tian* + *yi* fanqie, and also pronounced *si*. The second character is *hu* + *gu* fanqie; Gu Yewang says: "互 means to alternate and substitute." In the *Shuowen* it is under the bamboo radical; in the *Yupian* it is under the tooth radical; it is also written with the bamboo radical as 䇘, which refers to an implement used to wind cords. Now the bamboo radical is omitted to write 互, which is a pictograph depicting what a human hand pushes and grasps in the middle; in the treatise text it is written as 㸦, which is a popular vulgar character).
