Yearning and clinging (顧戀: [first character fanqie] 光戶反; Zheng Xuan's annotations on the Mao Shijing state: "Turning the head back is called gu (顧);" he also says: "Gu means looking back upon; remembering." The Cang Jie pian states: "Gu means to revolve." The Guangya states: "Gu means facing towards;" it is also written as 𮨇, a vulgar graph. The Shuowen jiezi states: "Looking back; from the head radical (頁, sound 頡) with 雇 (sound 故) as phonetic." The second character has the fanqie 力眷反; the Kaosheng states: "Lian (戀) means longing." The Shiji states: "Lian means yearning and thinking upon; from the heart radical with 䜌 (sound 攣) as phonetic." Some sūtra texts write it as 孌, which is an error and not the meaning of the sūtra).
