增乘（上則登反考聲增重也廣雅加也爾雅益也杜注左傳增眾也下繩證反杜注左傳乘車之總名也）。

Mounting incrementally (增, the first character, has the fanqie phonetic spelling 則登 [ze/deng]. The Kaosheng says: '增 means to double.' The Guangya says: 'It means to add.' The Erya says: 'It means to increase.' Du's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: '增 means numerous.' 乘, the second character, has the fanqie phonetic spelling 繩證 [sheng/zheng]. Du's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: '乘 is the general name for carriages').
