Wrapped up (包, the first character, has the fanqie phonetic spelling 飽交 [bao/jiao]. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'The character 包 takes 勹 as radical, resembling a person bending over wrapping something.' 裹, the second character, has the fanqie phonetic spelling 古火 [gu/huo]. Gu Yewang says: '裹 is like 包 [wrapping].' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'The top and bottom take 衣 as radical, with 果 as phonetic component.' 勹 has the sound of 包 [bao]).
