Snakes and scorpions (蛇蠍: the second character has the fanqie x[uān] + [y]è. The Boya says: "蠍 (xiē) stings." The Guangya says: "Another name is 𧔣𱿴." [虫*束*頁] has the pronunciation dá; 𱿴 has the fanqie l[uò] + [g]ē. The Gujin zhengzi states: "蠆 (chài) is a scorpion. 蠆 has the fanqie ch[ǒu] + [jiè]." The Tongsu wen states: "[虫*束*頁]𱿴 is an alternative name for 蠍." The Shuowen says: "A venomous insect." In ancient script 蠆 is a pictograph, and also composed of 'insect' [虫]. The sūtra writes 蝎, which denotes a wood-boring grub; 蝎 has the fanqie h[ú] + [g]é, which is not this meaning).
