子莠（由酒反傳曰莠似禾苗也尚書云若苗之有莠文字典說云惡草似稷無米說文禾粟下陽生者曰莠從艸秀聲）。

"Weeds among the seeds" (Fanqie: 由 + 酒 [yǒu]. The Commentary says: 'Weeds (莠) resemble grain shoots.' The Shangshu says: 'Like shoots having weeds.' The Dian-shuo of the Wenzixue says: 'Noxious weeds resemble millet but yield no grain.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'What grows below the grain and millet under the sun is called yóu.' It derives from the grass radical with 秀 as phonetic).
