儀範(凡黯反上聲字也爾雅範常也韻英則也考聲摸也說文法也古法有竹形以竹簡書之故言法也從竹從車從𣲩省聲也經文作鈴非也甚無此理)。

Model and exemplar (儀範: the fanqie is 凡 + 黯, in the falling-rising tone. The Erya says: "範 means standard." The Yunying says: "Rule." The Kaosheng says: "Model." The Shuowen says: "Pattern. Ancient laws had the form of bamboo because they were written on bamboo slips; hence it is called pattern. Formed from [the semantic components] 竹 ('bamboo') and 車 ('cart'), with 𣲩 abbreviated as the phonetic component." In the text of the sūtra it is written as 鈴, which is incorrect; there is utterly no basis for this.)
