[八/芻]牧（楚俱反顧野王刈乾草也說文亦刈草也象包束草之形也下蒙祿反廣雅云牧養也漢書牧者畜養之總名也說文從牛攴聲攴音普卜反）。

Foraging and pasturing ([八/芻]牧: for the first character, the fanqie is 楚 + 俱. Gu Yewang says: "To cut dried grass." The Shuowen also says: "To mow grass; it depicts the shape of bundled grass." For the second character, the fanqie is 蒙 + 祿. The Guangya says: "牧 means to tend." The Hanshu says: "牧 is the general designation for raising livestock." The Shuowen says: "Formed from [the semantic component] 牛 and the phonetic component 攴." For 攴, the fanqie is 普 + 卜.)
