Provisions and rations ([〦/(刀*了*(留-刀-田))/員]饟: for the first character, the fanqie is 子 + 奚. Zheng [Xuan's] commentary on the Zhouli says: "賫 means provisions carried for traveling on the road." Gu Yewang says: "To carry." The Guangya says: "To send." The Shuowen says: "To carry and bestow; formed from [the semantic component] 貝 and the phonetic component 齋." In the sūtra it is written as 賷, which is a vulgar character. For the second character, the fanqie is 式 + 掌. The Erya says: "饟 means provision." The Fangyan says: "The people of Zhou call 餉 by the word 饋. Formed from [the semantic component] 食 and the phonetic component 襄." In the sūtra it is written as 餉, which is also an acceptable vulgar character. For 饋, the sound is 匱.)
