目䀹（下尖葉反史記云目見毫毛而不見䀹也考聲云䀹瞼上毛也周禮云眼不交䀹說文從目夾聲經作睫俗字也）。

目䀹 ('eyelashes'): The second character has the fanqie [j- + ian >] jiān and [y- + e >] yè. The Shiji says: 'The eye can see a fine autumn hair but cannot see its own eyelashes.' The Kaosheng says: '䀹 are the hairs upon the eyelids.' The Rites of Zhou says: 'The eyes do not blink (䀹).' The Shuowen says: 'Composed of 目 with 夾 phonetic.' The sūtra writes 睫, which is a vulgar character.
