Hooves and snouts (蹄喙): The upper character is di plus ni fan. A donkey's hooves are small and round, not of the kind of cattle hooves. The lower character is xiong plus wei fan. Du [Yu's] commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: 'Hui means mouth.' The Shuowen states: 'Takes "mouth" (口), with [...] ([(┐@一)/豕]) for sound; [...] is tu plus luan fan.'
