慘毒（上初錦反方言慘殺也說文慘亦毒也從心參聲經文作磣亦通用也）。
慘毒: The upper character has the fanqie phonetic spelling 初錦. The Fangyan says: '慘 means to slaughter.' The Shuowen jiezi says: '慘 also means poisonous/cruel; it follows 心 with 參 as phonetic.' In the sūtra text it is written 磣, which is also commonly interchangeable.
