Wooden clogs (木𰍸: Also written 跂 [屐], pronounced with the fanqie *qu* + *ni* [jī]. Later in the vinaya text there are grass sandals, woolen sandals, and so forth. The *Shuowen jiezi* states: '屐 means clogs (屩).' The *Shiming* says: 'Silk clogs are made of silk.' Thus clogs and sandals were of the same category in antiquity. The *Hanshu* says: 'Yuan Ang walked seventy li in clogs'; this is it. The *Sancang* states: 'Wooden sandals.' The *Kongcongzi* says: 'Kong Chuan trailed his long robe and shook his square clogs to see Lord Pingyuan'; this seems to refer to wooden clogs. The *Yiyuan* says: 'Jie Zhitui embraced a tree and burned to death; Duke Wen of Jin cut down the tree to make clogs.' 屩 is pronounced with the fanqie *ju* + *nue* [juē].).
