The *Shuowen jiezi* gives the pronunciation with the fanqie *yi* + *you*; it means a bend or recess in water; a *wei* is a hidden, sheltered place. It is also written 庡, pronounced with the fanqie *wu* + *bei* [yì]. The *Zilin* states: '庡 means sheltered.' The *Tongsuwen* states: 'The inner recess is called 庡.' Today when people say *yichu* [sheltered place], it is all this.).
