衰朽(率歸反考聲衰弱也韻英微也秏也說文草雨衣也象形字也下休柳反孔注尚書云朽腐說文從歹作[(餐-食)-又+ㄎ]與朽同經文從木俗用亦通也)。
Withered and decayed (衰朽: the first is pronounced with the fanqie 率歸 [shuī]. The Kaosheng says: "Shuai means feeble." The Yunying says: "Slight; depleted." The Shuowen says: "A rain cloak made of grass, a pictographic character." The second is pronounced with the fanqie 休柳 [xiǔ]. Kong's commentary on the Book of Documents says: "Xiu means rotten." The Shuowen writes it with 歹 as [(餐-食)-又+ㄎ], identical to 朽. In the sūtra text it is written with 'wood' [木], which is also commonly accepted).
