負債（上扶武反鄭注禮記云負恃也說文從人守貝有所恃也又云受貸不黨故人下有貝會意字也俗從力或從刀竝非字意下側戒反韻英云負財也）。

負債: The first character is pronounced 扶 + 武 fanqie. Zheng [Xuan]’s commentary on the Liji says: “負 means to rely upon.” The Shuowen says: “It is formed from 人 holding 貝, having something to rely on; it also says: receiving loans without being upright, hence 人 is above 貝; an ideogram. Conventionally written with 力 or with 刀, neither of which accords with the character's meaning.” The second character is pronounced 側 + 戒 fanqie. The Yunying says: “To owe wealth.”
