險阻（上香掩反玉篇云險難也杜預注左傳云險惡也賈逵注國語云險危也方言云險高也爾雅險邪也說文險從阜僉七廉反聲也下莊所反王肅曰阻難也韓詩云阻憂也又云阻險也杜預注左傳云阻疑也說文云從阜從苴精余反省聲也）。

Perilous and blocked (險阻: for the first character, the fanqie is 香掩 [xiǎn]. The Yupian says: 'Perilous and difficult.' Du Yu's commentary on the Zuozhuan says: 'Treacherous and evil.' Jia Kui's commentary on the Guoyu says: 'Precarious.' The Fangyan says: 'Steep and high.' The Erya says: 'Perilous and crooked.' The Shuowen says: '險 takes radical 阜 with 僉 [qiān] as phonetic.' For the second character, the fanqie is 莊所 [zǔ]. Wang Su says: 'Obstruction and difficulty.' The Han poetry says: '阻 means sorrow.' It also says: '阻 means perilous.' Du Yu's commentary on the Zuozhuan says: '阻 means suspicion.' The Shuowen says: 'It takes radical 阜 with an abbreviated 苴 [jū] as phonetic').
