Snails and spiral shells (蝸蠃: for the first character, the fanqie is 古華 [guā], a small snail (魯和 [luó]). For the second character, the fanqie is 盧和 [luó]. In the sūtra it is written 螺, a vulgar character, not the orthodox form. The Erya says: '附蠃 (pronounced 夷蝓 [yíyú]).' Guo Pu says: 'That is the snail (蝸牛).' The Shuowen also says: 'The 蠃 is of the snail class but larger in shape, produced in the sea, with diverse and non-uniform shapes').
