箭筈（上將線反考聲云竹名也似篠音狄而小大葉可以為矢音始因名矢為箭說文箭矢也從竹前聲也下枯活反考聲云箭口也案箭筈者受弦之口也經文從木作栝亦通正體從竹從栝省聲也栝音闊糖栝也）。

箭筈 ("arrow notch"): The first character has the fanqie reading [ts- + -iɛn = jiàn] (將線反). The Kaosheng says: "A name of a bamboo resembling small bamboo (篠, pronounced dí) yet smaller, with large leaves, which can be made into arrows (矢, pronounced shǐ); hence an arrow was called a 箭." The Shuowen says: "箭 means an arrow (矢). It is formed with the radical 竹 ('bamboo') and 前 as phonetic." The second character has the fanqie reading [kʰ- + -wɑt = kuò] (枯活反). The Kaosheng says: "The nock of an arrow." Examining 箭筈: it is the notch that receives the bowstring. In the sūtra text it is written with the radical 木 as 栝, which is also acceptable; its orthodox form is written with the radical 竹 and an abbreviated 栝 as phonetic (栝 is pronounced kuò, as in sweet gourds [tangkuo])."
