媒娉（上每杯反周禮媒謀也鄭玄曰謀合異性使和合成親也下匹併反考聲問也以財娶妻並從女某甹皆聲或從耳作聘甹音匹丁反）。

媒娉 (The upper character is [pronounced with the] fanqie 每杯 [méi]. The Rites of Zhou says: "A matchmaker schemes." Zheng Xuan says: "Scheming to unite different surnames, causing them to harmonize and form a marriage bond." The lower character is [pronounced with the] fanqie 匹併 [pìng]. The Kaosheng says: "To betroth; to take a wife with wealth." Both are derived from woman with mou and ping phonetic respectively. Sometimes it is written 聘 with the ear radical. 甹 is pronounced with the fanqie 匹丁 [pīng]).
