擡裙（上音臺下音群考聲云擡舉也廣雅動也埤蒼振也言擡裙者摳衣也下裙字說文正體從巾作帬今律中從衣作裙時用字說文帬裳也上曰衣下曰裳並合從巾今並從衣俗字）。

To lift the skirt (擡裙): The first character has the pronunciation of 臺; the second character has the pronunciation of 群. The Kaosheng states that 擡 means to raise. The Guangya states that it means to move. The Picang states that it means to shake up. 'Lifting the skirt' means hitching up one's garments. As for the second character, 裙, the standard form in the Shuowen jiezi is written with the cloth radical (巾) as 帬; today, in the vinaya text, it is written with the clothing radical (衣) as 裙, which is the character in contemporary use. The Shuowen jiezi states that 帬 is a lower garment; the upper is called 衣 and the lower is called 裳, both of which properly take the cloth radical (巾), but today they are both written with the clothing radical (衣) as popular variants.
