拯濟（拯字無反脚耴䒱字上聲說文從手從升作抍用與拯同杜注左傳云拯抆助也方言拔也廣雅收也耴也說文上舉也從手丞聲）。

To rescue and deliver (拯濟): [For the first character,] the character 拯 has no fanqie, [having the pronunciation of] 耴 and the rising tone of the character 䒱. The Shuowen jiezi says it is written 抍, with the hand radical (扌) and 升; its use is the same as 拯. Du [Yu]'s commentary on the Zuozhuan states that 拯 means to wipe away and assist. The Fangyan states that it means to pull out. The Guangya states that it means to gather in and to grasp. The Shuowen jiezi states that it means to raise upward, formed with the hand radical (扌) and 丞 as the phonetic element.
