腋挾（上盈赤反埤蒼云腋胳也肘後也古今正字從肉夜聲胳音各下嫌頰反何休注公羊云挾懷也爾雅云挾藏也說文從手夾聲杜注左傳云除囟之祀也說文云除惡祭也從示犮聲犮音盤鉢反）。

腋挾 (The first syllable is *yè* [ying + chi fanqie]. The Picang says: "腋 (*yè*) is the armpit (胳); it is behind the elbow." The Gujin zhengzi states that it is formed with 'flesh' (肉) and 夜 as the phonetic component. 胳 is pronounced *gē* [ge + ge fanqie]. The second syllable is *xiá* [xian + jia fanqie]. He Xiu's commentary on the Gongyang zhuan says: "挾 (*xiá*) means to carry in the bosom." The Erya says: "挾 (*xiá*) means to conceal." The Shuowen jiezi states that it is formed with 'hand' (手) and 夾 as the phonetic component. [The text further quotes:] Du Yu's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: "A sacrifice to eliminate misfortune." The Shuowen jiezi says: "A sacrifice to remove evils; it is formed with 'spirit' (示) and 犮 as the phonetic component." 犮 is pronounced *bá* [pan + bo fanqie]).
