商[(臾-臼+?)/貝]（上賞章反鄭注考工記云行賣曰𧶜下孤五反集訓云居賈曰[(臾-臼+?)/貝]杜注左傳坐販也鄭注禮記云[(臾-臼+?)/貝]謂[(臾-臼+?)/貝]物貴賤也古今正字坐[(臾-臼+?)/貝]賣集也從貝史聲史音古說文云史從人自擁蔽也左右象蔽形也經作估非也）。

Shānggǔ 商[(臾-臼+?)/貝] (merchants and traders: the upper [sounded with the fanqie] sh- + [zh]āng 賞章反. Zheng's commentary to the Kaogongji says: 'One who travels to sell is a shāng 商.' The lower [sounded with the fanqie] g- + [w]ǔ 孤五反. The Jixun says: 'Resident trading is called gǔ [(臾-臼+?)/貝].' Du's commentary to the Zuo zhuan says: 'Sitting and trading.' Zheng's commentary to the Liji says: 'Gǔ [(臾-臼+?)/貝] means evaluating commodities as expensive or cheap.' The Gujin zhengzi says: 'Sitting and selling goods gathered together. It has radical 貝 [cowrie/wealth] with 史 as phonetic component.' 史 is pronounced gǔ 古. The Shuowen jiezi says: '史 comes from a person shielding himself, picturing being hidden on left and right.' In the sūtra it is written as 估, which is incorrect).
