畏憚（下彈旦反去聲字也鄭箋毛詩云憚難也又云畏也韓詩外傳惡也廣雅驚也怒也說文忌也從心單聲也）。

Fear and dread [畏憚]: The second character (dan + dan [dàn]) is in the departing tone. Zheng's gloss on the Mao commentary to the Shijing states: 'Dàn means to find difficult; it also means to fear.' The Han Shi waizhuan states: 'To hate.' The Guangya states: 'To be startled; to be angry.' The Shuowen says: 'To shun/dread; formed with "mind" [心] as radical and dān [單] as phonetic.'
