噉䔉(上談敢反上聲字也韻詮云噉大也食也從口敢聲或作啖下酸亂反說文葷萊也從草[示*木]聲[示*木]音同上也)。

噉䔉 eating garlic: the first syllable is tan + gan fan [dàn], a falling-rising tone character. The Yunquan says: “Dan means to bite into; to eat.” Derived from ‘mouth’ (口) with ‘gan’ (敢) as phonetic. Also written as 啖. The second syllable is suan + luan fan [suàn]. The Shuowen says: “Pungent greens.” Derived from ‘grass’ (草) with ‘[示*木]’ as phonetic. The pronunciation of ‘[示*木]’ is identical to the above.
