懇惻（古文記同口很反通俗文至誠曰懇懇信也亦堅忍也下古文測同楚力反廣雅惻悲也說文惻痛也）。

懇惻 (Earnest and sorrowful: The ancient graph is the same as 記, pronounced *kou* + *hen* [kěn]. The *Tongsu wen* states: 'Utmost sincerity is called 懇; 懇 means truthfulness; it also means firm forbearance.' The second character's ancient graph is the same as 測, pronounced *chu* + *li* [cè]. The *Guangya* states: '惻 means grieved.' The *Shuowen* states: '惻 means aching sorrow').
