蓐几 (Mat and armrest: The first character [蓐], pronounced *ru* + *shu* [rù]. Guo's commentary on the *Erya* states: '蓐 means sleeping mat.' The *Guiyuan zhucong* states: 'Composed of 草 as 蓐, square clothing [pad].' The *Gujin zhengzi* has it composed of 草 with 辱 as phonetic. The second character [几], pronounced *ji* + *ni* [jī]. The *Rites of Zhou* mentions five armrests: jade, carved, shaped, lacquered, and plain. The *Kaosheng* states: 'A category of support.' The *Shuowen* states: '几 means to lean against; a character depicting a bird's form.' In the sūtra it is written with 木 as 机, which is the name of a tree, not the original character).
